Pearson Cycles began in 1860. They are the “World’s Oldest Bicycle Shop” according to the Guinness Book of Records. The shop has remained in the Pearson family for over 150 years. It’s now run by Guy & William Pearson, who are brothers, and the fifth generation to take the helm.
This brilliant video, narrated by William, goes through the history of Pearson Cycles, starting with its founder, their great-great-grandfather Thomas Pearson, a blacksmith. With wonderful footage of men riding penny-farthings and other cycling contraptions, it’s a great watch.
Their original store in Sutton (south-west London) is a friendly one stop shop for all your cycling needs. They offer cycle servicing, a fantastic range of bikes and bits, and now Liteloks! It’s a great match: the world’s oldest bike shop now stocks the world’s first light, flexible, high-security bike lock. If you’re in the area, stop in and have a chat.
