Litelok stops Bike Thief at train station in London

One of our customers recently tweeted us to say that their Litelok stopped a thief from stealing their bike. It’s always nice to hear from happy customers, so we got in touch to find out more.

Hello Sim, so glad to hear that your Litelok stopped a thief from stealing your bike. Where did the attempted theft occur?

I left my bike at Canonbury station (London) locked up. However, as it was slightly obstructed from view of the CCTV I think that’s why they tried to steal it!

What tool do you think the thief used to try to break your Litelok?

It looks like the thief tried to use bolt cutters to cut through the lock, but they didn’t get very far before giving up.

Is bike theft a big problem where you live? Have you had any bikes stolen before?

Bike theft seems to be huge around my area, I usually leave my bike in a hangar on my street overnight but I’m glad I have my Litelok looking after it whenever it’s not in there!

Where are the worst places for bicycle theft in the UK?

According to Yellow Jersey, from April 2018 to April 2019, the worst specific location for bike theft was Cambridge train station with 113 bikes stolen over the 12-month period, followed by St Albans train station car park in Hertfordshire and West Bargate high street in Southampton, where 93 were taken in each place.

Yellow Jersey have recently published an interactive "Bike Theft Heatmap" of the UK from November 2018 to April 2019. Check it out by clicking the image:

If you leave your bike at the train station often, we recommend using a Twin Litelok Gold. These are Sold Secure Gold rated locks; by using two high-security bike locks, you drastically reduce the risk of theft.
