Amanda and Alex recently set themselves the challenge to cycle from London to Paris on a Tandem bicycle. That is roughly a 300-mile journey on a bicycle made for two. The reason for this was to fundraise for the Lily Pad Appeal, set up to raise money for a new children’s oncology unit at their local hospital.
Setting off from their home on the 25th of June, they cycled down to Newhaven on the south coast of England, where they got a ferry across to Dieppe. They then spent the next three days cycling over 200 miles to Paris.

To help them on their journey, we donated a Twin Litelok Silver, so they could safely secure their Tandem when taking much-needed breaks. When we asked how they got on with their Liteloks, Alex said:
“The keyed alike Twin Litelok Silver locks really came into their own on the trip as we discovered that lots of Parisienne street furniture is massive. Linking the two locks together allowed us to secure the tandem in all sorts of unusual places and not worry about a casual thief making off with the loaded bike. At night we were also able to lock the front and rear wheels independently and sleep easier as a result. And we can confirm that the locks work perfectly in the 45 C heatwave! The weight saving as we pedalled along was very welcome as our panniers weighed in at about 20kg and water bottles at a further 5kg.”
We are really glad that Amanda and Alex completed their challenge safely and raised over £1,000 for their local hospital. If you’d like to donate then you can do so by clicking here.
Here are some wonderful images that Amanda and Alex sent us of them using their Twin Litelok Silver in Paris.
