The Best Cycling Songs for your Bike Ride

The Best Cycling Songs for your Bike Ride

Cycling in the sun with some great tunes in your ear can be absolute bliss. But choosing what songs to listen to can be problematic. So why not listen to songs about cycling? We have put together a list of great songs about cycling for you to enjoy on those weekend bike rides, or if you are training in the gym.

Bicycle Race - Queen

Bicycle Race is a great way to start your bike ride. The fast tempo and motivating calls of ‘Bicycle!’ is enough to get those pedals moving at a quicker pace. Drawing its inspiration from a stage of the Tour de France, this song has encouraged many people to get on their bikes and ride. It even includes a bike bell solo.

Riding on my Bike - Madness

Most people know ska group Madness’s song 'Driving in my Car' but if you turn over your 12” and play the B-Side you’ll get a fantastic song about cycling. It is a great song and if you compare the two tracks it proves that cycling is better driving.

Silver Machine - Hawkwind

Starts with a slow build up but what a song. Inspired by Hawkwind’s Robert Calvert’s silver bicycle. Robert said in an interview “Silver Machine' was just to say, I've got a silver bicycle, and nobody got it. I didn't think they would. I thought that what they would think we were singing about some sort of cosmic space travel machine. I did actually have a silver racing bike when I was a boy. I've got one now, in fact.

The Bike Song - Mark Ronson & The Business INTL

Mark Ronson is known for his funky collaborations and this is definitely up there as one of his best. Featuring vocals from Kyle Falconer (frontman of The View) and rapper Spank Rock, is perfect for a leisurely ride. It has a great beat to it.

Cycling is Fun - Shonen Knife

It may be a bit cheesier than other songs on this list but it is a really catchy pop song. Upbeat, cheery, and fun. Just like cycling.

Bike - Pink Floyd

This is a bit before their mellow, psychedelic phase that they are best known for. This is quite on the nose with lyrics such as ‘I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like, It's got a basket, a bell that rings’

The Bicycle Song - Red Hot Chili Peppers

By this point in your ride, you may be inclined to take it down a gear. The bicycle song has a slower pace to it than previous songs on this list and is a really nice, relaxing song. This track is taken from The Chili’s 8th studio ‘By the Way’ and features the lyrics ‘How could I forget to mention the bicycle is a good invention’. We’d like to agree with the Chili Peppers and also compliment them on a really nice song.

The Pushbike Song - The Mixtures

It is impossible not to nod your head along with this beat. Classed as Bubblegum pop, this song was released in 1970 by the Mixtures and later covered by Mungo Jerry. Perfect for a sunny bike ride.

La Bicicleta - Carlos Vives & Shakira

You don’t need to understand Spanish to enjoy this song. It has a cool Cuban beat and sang by two amazing vocalists. It loosely translates as having the ability to get on your bicycle and travel anywhere, which is a message we can get behind.

Tour de France - Kraftwerk

A beautiful tech tune that will make you push it a little bit harder up those hill climbs. It utilizes the sound of breathing to capture the essence of the Tour de France but it also wouldn’t seem out of place in a nightclub.

If you have a favourite cycling track that’s not on the list then let us know on Facebook or Twitter. If we like it, we'll add it.
